Helping Hearts Child Advocacy Center

Provide forensic interviews and advocacy for child abuse victims. Referrals come from law enforcement or community partners.

    • Helping Hearts is dedicated to ending child abuse in Wallowa County by providing intervention services and trauma informed advocacy in a safe space, empowering youth to use their voice.  We have two favorite sayings "Every kiddo deserves a safe, happy and healthy childhood" and "Helping Hearts - big hearts helping little hearts"

  • Forensic Interviewers - Trained interviewers create safety for children while asking non-leading, neutral questions about what may have happened to them.  Interviews are videotaped, collecting effective evidence and helping reduce the number of times a child has to talk about traumatic experiences.

Medical Exams - Medical examiners with specialized training in child abuse assessment conduct head-to-toe physical examinations accompanied by a medical interview

Family Advocacy- Advocates assist the families during the traumatic, life-altering experience of uncovering child abuse.  Advocates support the children and their non-offending family members, help coordinate victim services, make referrals and are available as needs arise following the assessment

Mental Health Services- Mental health services at a Child Advocacy Center provide children and families with immediate, trauma-informed support following allegations of abuse. Licensed professionals offer specialized assessments, crisis intervention, and evidence-based therapy to help children process their experiences in a safe and supportive environment. These services also guide caregivers with resources and strategies to promote healing and long-term well-being.

  • State rules and regulations are our biggest barriers along with secure funding. Transportation to and from our center can be a barrier at this point we can't transport families, but we are currently working on grants to get us a vehicle.

Northeast Oregon Network (NEON)

NEON is committed to driving Collective Change by fostering a collaborative environment where diverse voices are heard and valued. We do this through the following core values.

    • To support individuals, communities, and systems to collectively promote equity, health, and wellbeing at home and beyond. We were created to be a gap-filling, nimble organization, which leads us to have a number of programs under our organization. Much of our work is done by and for Community Health Workers (CHWs), and focuses both on healthcare access and addressing Social Determinants of Health.

  • Our community-facing programs include Marketplace and Medicaid (Oregon Health Plan) enrollment assistance, Health Related Social Needs (rent and utilities), referral to community resources, healthcare interpretation, and other family supports.

We also support other organizations through fiscal sponsorship, technical assistance, and consulting.

Finally, we serve a statewide audience with our training program, which provides and supports CHW certification, workplace wellness training, and other training resources that benefit our front-line community professionals and their employers.

    Main Number: 541-398-2539

  • We can't share information with an ROI, and sometimes other consent forms. We do have a BAA in place with Center for Wellness and some other key partners, which helps. A number of our programs other than health insurance enrollment have tight eligibility, such as HRSN. Finally, without a local affordable newspaper, no TV news, and limited radio, it can be hard to get the word out to the whole community about our programs.
